Yes, our visit with John Gaudin was inspiring for us. Not only did we get to talk about art, but we got to talk about exciting things happening to grow Argenta into a booming area. Starving Artist Cafe was already booming when we sat down for lunch on a glorious afternoon. The tulips that line Main Street were in full bloom, and people were stopping by to say hello. Yes, there’s something happening in Argenta – and it’s all good!
While we spoke mostly of John’s religious artwork, he did also tell us about his new venture in to pop art. “I’m having the most fun with it!” he exclaimed. So off we went to visit his home and studio. Not surprisingly, it’s also located on Main Street above Cregeen’s. His condominium is gorgeous. Not only did he do a great job designing the space, the walls are full of art. Some of the art is his own work. But there are also pieces from many other artists. John collects artwork the “right” way. That is, he buys what he loves – art that speaks to him – art that moves him. So his home is full of beautiful work that reflects who he is as a person. It’s a glorious space.
We loved seeing his pop art. Done in the style of Andy Warhol or Peter Max, this art is fun, colorful, and adds so much to the walls where it hangs. One of the great things about being an artist is that you can create pieces for particular rooms when nothing else seems to fit. John has done just that with some of his work – and it’s wonderful.
His studio is located in his home. It’s a cozy space with enough room to create. It’s a space we wish we had in our own home. Right now John is working on a painting of his building. It’s already sold, but it showed us that John’s talents run deep and wide. As he gets ready for the opening of the Farmer’s Market on Saturday, who knows what else will inspire him? We look forward to seeing it – whatever it may be.
